Downloaded Julius V last night, started reading and immediately began laughing. (Full disclosure: I did grow up Catholic, and was even a nun for a while.) Eventually finished the book despite going way past my bedtime. Laughed out loud more than I have for many years, and also gained a few nuggets of wisdom, together with an appreciation of how it's possible to write something funny, sexy, astute, witty and wise, and never really harm any characters (at least not permanently). The plot is brilliantly conceived and audaciously carried out, offering the possibility of true redemption for characters (and readers) who are open to it.Product details

Juilus V is a brilliantly rocking comedy with social commentary and wit jumping off every page. It is comedic satire at it's energetic best. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Steve is a bright and clever writer. Engage your own mind by reading this book!
Fast paced story of an action filled popes adventures. Sex, drugs and rock n roll. What could be better than mixing a pope, seducing nuns, Elvis impersonators, Cuban mig pilots and the heir of Napoleon. All set in venues like Vegas, Montana and of course the Vatican! Funny and filled with history and Latin lessons!
Julius V is irreverent, intelligent, and wildly funny, while also being a social commentary that turns life as we know it right side up! One unforgettable adventure, which captures the reader at the very start, and was amusing from beginning to end. I laughed out loud a lot!
In these modern tense times we live in...every once in awhile a book comes along that surprises and leaves the reader simply feeling good. I enjoyed the journey into Julius' witty intelligent swashbuckling magical world and would welcome a second adventure. Thanks for the smiles infused with a little hope for a different kind of future...
Not a book for the stern at heart....Julius V is written with wit and a wink toward those who care to delve deeper. The plot is unexpected and, though biblically referenced, full of creative twists and turns. While I had expected to enjoy Francis' work, due to previous experience with his sharp mind, I was pleasantly surprised at the sheer enjoyment of this book. I recommend it to anyone with an open mind toward the papacy, and its unconventional hero in Julius V. Read with a good cup of tea, or a splash of wine, and enjoy the romp.
This is a very entertaining fun read. I so appreciate how the author created the characters to blend with history for a version of this up to date unique story. I highly reccomend it.
A unique plot concept and a fast paced, Entertaining read. I liked it much more than I expected.. Besides being hilarious, irreverent, historically informative and surprising, it's cleverly written. Some references contain deeper aspects and metaphors, if one is willing to 'read between the lines'. Very interesting, definitely not your typical Formulaic work, Really looking forward to this author's next book~!.
